I'm going to build out two local directories and would appreciate advise from anybody who has done this already.

Here;s the basic structure I'm thinking of...

entire directory is made up of numerous wp blogs - one blog for each business category (attorneys, plumbers, etc is each a distinct blog) using subdomains "ex-city-attorneys.excitybusiness.com" for example.

each blog will have a static page for the home page and then a scraped wp directory of each local business under that.

my thoughts - this is a boat load of work because of all the specific scraping of categories and the setup of each static home page.

would I be better off using something like wpdirectory for the site and then building the individual business sections on wp? is there a better way to build this out?

feedback appreciated.

why a different blog setup for each category? way too much work.

WFReview will let you set up categories and subcategories for each.

Also categories and subcategories get a SEO boost from your main domain, whereas subdomains do not.

I am wondering how on earth, or anywhere else, i can get a scraped csv file of businesses in my town/area. I can sort from there but would appreciate any info on short cuts, long cuts and any other cuts at all, really.
PS it might help to know that I am wanting to do a local business directory and have the businesses buy to control their own listing on it, for a handsome sum.
