View Full Version : Issues
1) I put a date range from yesterday to late december but when i set up cron, the site was populated with every item in the database - 11,000+ - I thought the purpose of the dates was to spread out the posts over a period of time.
also, on the cron issue. i'm getting an email every 60 seconds. after the cron is setup and verified that it's running, there's no need to provide the email address right?
2) comments/ratings - the issue with comments is..there's no comments. it just says the name of the person and some random star rating. is commenting coming or is it already there and I missed a setting?
on the ratings...i hit the generate ratings and it did so for all 11,000+ posts at one time...is that the way it's supposed to work?
3) i think overall I'm missing the power of this script. after just building a small test site, it seems like you can grab a blog poster, add an ajax rating system, and pretty much do what this does. I was looking for any easy way to generate one page product review sites plus local business directories. if I use it with a merchants database of products, I'm getting the same site that I was building 7 years ago with rsstoblog but with some stars added so there's no unique content that sets it apart from those types of blogs that have been around for years.
i know there has to be more to it then that...what am I missing? what types of sites have others built with this that are successful?
thanks,
ljay

I thought we had this fixed, will look into.

No email needed, no.

There aren't supposed to be comments. How do you expect a script to make legitimate sounding comments for 12K records? Only the ratings are generated. Anyone who tells you that their product can make that number of comments not look spammy is a moron.

Gonna say this as nicely as I can: We don't out our customers' landing pages/sites for any reason. If you want to make money in this biz, you HAVE to come up with unique and profitable ideas on your own.
There is no single product that will give you turnkey to interwebz monies, regardless of what eBooks say.
hehe...easy!

Don't know Nick - I just thought it did...I stand corrected. :D

Wasn't asking anybody to show me shit..just asking for thoughts on what type of sites they have generated that were successful. For example,
"I have used this for 8 niche local directories and they are all making money" -
I'm not going to rush out and create niche local directories just because somebody said that model has been go to them. It's just good to hear about people who have had success.
On another note - I removed the posts in my test blog, set them up again, and had the script generate "comments". For the last hour it has said this:
Generate Ratings
Generating...
Re-calculating rating weights...
How long does that operation typically take?

Depends on how many comments you had entered and how fast your server is. If you had more than 2-5 comments for all 11K, it's gonna take a while to recalculate if you're on shared hosting.
Any chance of getting a kill button for that? The opportunity to cut it off would be good.
also, 2 issues with test blog:
1) some of the products have no description showing even though the data is in the excel file.
2) some items the link doesnt show even though there is a link in the excel file.
does the script have known issues with particular data that would cut off the info above?

1) I almost 100% assure you it's either the template you created or a bad CSV. The [tags] need to be case sensitive and identical to teh CSV fields. Simply click on the CSV field to insert it at the insertion point in the template.
2) You need to make sure your template conforms to HTML standards. <img src=[link]> is the proper format, no quotes.

Yeah, that's what I did. If it was the template the other 10k items would have some issue probably yes..? Seems it's the specific description of specific product causing the issue.
Here's what the description says in the feed..
Your team is hot...and youll stay warm with our CollegeJersey NFL Jersey Scarf! The front of the scarve features your team logo and colors on jersey mesh fabric. The back is warm polar fleece. But the best part of these scarves is the zip pocket for you to keep your ticket stub, cash or whatever you need to keep close at hand on game day. The pocket measures 6 long and 7 wide and features an NFL zipper pull. The scarfs feature jersey fabric in official National Football League team color, screen printed with team logo and graphics and a black polar fleece lining. The scarf measures 60 long and 7 wide. Dont be caught without one! Get yours today!
here's the way it shows on the site for each of the same product with the same description
